DONALD G. SMITH SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

MILWAY CREDIT UNION AWARDS FOUR $1,000 SCHOLARSHIPS PLUS ONE SPECIAL DONALD G. SMITH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Donald G. Smith Scholarship was created in 1996 to honor retired MilWay FCU president, Don Smith. Mr. Smith served as our president from 1970 until 1995, at which time he retired. In 2012, the board voted to increase the number of scholarships to four in the amount of $1000 each ($500 per semester.) The scholarships are awarded during the first week in July of each year, with applications accepted during the month of May. Applicants must be a member of MilWay FCU, must be enrolled as a full-time college undergraduate student and must maintain a 2.50 grade point average.

*The one-time Donald G. Smith Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Mr. Smith who passed away this past February. Caedmon Kyles is the recipient of this scholarship.

  • MADISON ATCHLEY-STUDENT-OUACHITA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY Atchley, the 20-year-old daughter of James Atchley and Kristy Taylor of Texarkana, AR, is currently attending Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia where she is majoring in psychology and sociology with plans to attend graduate school after graduating with her bachelor’s.
  • DARREN BLACK, JR-2023 GENOA CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE Black, the 18-year-old son of Darren Black, Sr and Lisa Black of Texarkana, AR, is to attend the University of Arkansas in the fall of 2023 where he will major in history. He has his sights set on a law degree after completing his undergraduate work.
  • JARED DAY- 2023 ASHDOWN HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE Day, the 18-year-old son of Stacy and Alana Day of Lockesburg, AR, plans on attending and graduating from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Biology-Arts degree. After completing his undergraduate work, he is to attend the University of Tennessee-Memphis to study dentistry.
  • CHRISTOPHER GENNINGS-2023 TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE Gennings is the 18-year-old son of Brian and Mindy Gennings of Texarkana, AR. Gennings will attend Oklahoma State University where he will receive his master’s degree in electrical engineering in order to successfully obtain a professional engineering license.

Many of our recipients have been very successful in their studies and have gone on to professional and rewarding careers. Not only is it exciting to see these students excel, it is an honor for us to award these scholarships in Don Smith’s name.
